With only two stations, the Disneyland Resort Line is the shortest MTR line, but what it lacks in distance, it makes up for in fun. No entrance fee is required to enjoy running around the meticulously manicured Disneyland property, soaking up its magical atmosphere.
Choose between the classic on-road ‘Mickey Route’ and the adventurous off-road ‘Goofy Route’ to run the Disneyland Resort Line.
The Mickey Route: Turning right as you exit Sunny Bay station, look for the path behind the public toilets which leads to a tunnel under the train tracks. Head up the stairs then take a quick right-left-right at the T junctions to connect with Sunny Bay Road. Run for 1.5km down this road, being careful to stay out of the way of traffic. There are no sidewalks but it is a wide road with good visibility. At the roundabout, take the first exit to pass through the green arches and sing your favourite Disney songs as you run the last kilometre to Disneyland station.
The Goofy Route: Turning right as you exit Sunny Bay station, look for the path behind the public toilets which leads to a tunnel under the train tracks. Head up the stairs then take a quick right-left-right at the T junctions to connect with Sunny Bay Road. Cross to the far side of the road, after a hundred metres there will be a trail on the side of the road that you can use to avoid the traffic. Following the trail, you’ll pass under the roadway and continue on a path parallel to the train tracks. Here is where things get extra adventurous as you’ll have to find a place along the fence with a big enough gap to crawl under it to enter Inspiration Lake Park. Leaving the park it is a quick 1km run down Fantasy Road to Disneyland station.
The Mickey Route: Run through the beautifully manicured grounds of Disneyland, then make your way around two roundabouts to reach Sunny Bay Road. Here you need to be very careful of traffic as there is a long stretch without any sidewalks. Take a set of stairs down to the tunnel that runs under the train tracks. Emerging on the other side you’ll soon find yourself at Sunny Bay station.
The Goofy Route: Run to the beat of Disney tunes playing from the loudspeakers as you begin your run from Disneyland station. With an earworm now firmly established, hum that catchy tune while running the sidewalk to Inspiration Lake Park. There is a long fence along the west side of the park; stroll along it and find a gap large enough to crawl underneath. Running parallel to the train tracks, follow the path all the way to Sunny Bay Road. Be very careful on the short few hundred metres that you need to run on the road to reach the stairs that lead to the tunnel under the train tracks. Emerging on the other side you’ll soon find yourself at Sunny Bay station.
Start at Disneyland station and do a loop around the park following Magic Road and Fantasy Road.
The property around Disney is beautifully landscaped and very flat, a great place to explore on foot. Do a loop of Inspiration Lake Park or head down towards the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Pier to run along the well maintained waterfront promenade.
