Following Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR) lines is a great way to explore the city and add an element of adventure to your runs. Whether you are a Hong Kong local looking for a change from Bowen Road repeats, or a visitor looking to see more of the city, #runtheMTR has a route to suit every runner’s interests and abilities.
The routes were all created to balance runnability with staying true to the path the MTR takes through the city. Click on one of the icons below to discover a new route for your next run, or challenge yourself to run all ten lines of the MTR to have your name added to the Wall of Fame.
Be sure to share your runs on socials with the hashtag #runtheMTR
Running is a potentially hazardous activity and you should not attempt these runs unless you are medically able and properly trained. Follow these routes at your own risk and responsibility. Use common sense and follow the rules of the road.
Hong Kong has an extensive public transportation network which makes it quick and easy to get around the city. Enter your destination in the CityMapper app and it will list your public transportation options. Consider purchasing a stored value Octopus card which can be used to pay the fare on all buses, trains, ferries and trams. Free wifi is easy to find, but if you would like mobile data connection, prepaid SIM cards can be purchased from any 7-Eleven.
